Why Families Trust Castro Valley

“I was quite impressed with Carefield in Castro Valley. Parveen Singh, Senior Director, gave us an excellent personal tour for our large family of 9 on her day off. The place was clean, friendly staff (many have worked there for over a decade) and willing to accomodate a special diet needed for our family member. We ended up at a different senior living community where our loved one knew several residents. Still, I wanted to commend Carefield as I felt it was a wonderful “family” environment.”

Memory Care FAQ

We can help there! Before joining our community, every resident goes through a two-part formal assessment with the resident’s doctor and the care director at our community. The resident’s doctor will fill out a Physician’s Report for RCFE (Residential Care Facility for the Elderly) Admission. This report provides an overview of the resident’s physical and medical health including any medications, specialized diets, and their ambulatory status. The community care director will evaluate the resident’s health status and assess their ability to perform activities of daily living. This combination provides a baseline for individualized care plans.

Memory Care (MC) communities provide specialized care for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or memory challenges. These communities provide all the services of Assisted Living plus 24/7 supervision and care for cognitive issues. MC staff receive specialized training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care. The community is a secure and structured environment with simple layouts and safety features. MC programs are designed to provide a consistent and structured routine to reduce confusion and provide reassurance. Activities are designed for memory support and sensory stimulation. Unlike AL communities, MC communities have secured areas, alarms, and close monitoring to prevent wandering. MC is for seniors with cognitive decline who require specialized supervision and care.

Assisted Living (AL) communities help older adults with daily tasks while encouraging independence. Support is moderate and includes help with daily activities, medication, and basic health needs. AL staff are trained in general elder care and assisting with daily living. AL communities are comfortable, home-like setting with private apartments and social spaces, where schedules are flexible and guided by residents’ preferences. Social, recreational, and educational programs are encouraged for engagement and learning. Staff is available 24/7 and emergency systems are in place. AL is for seniors who need some help with daily tasks but can make independent choices.

Dementia is a broad term describing memory loss and cognitive decline. Alzheimer’s disease is one of dementia’s most common forms.

It is always best to consult a physician. In our experience, normal aging is typically mild and occasional forgetfulness whereas memory impairment significantly impacts day-to-day life.
