Why Families Trust Artesian of Ojai
“My father is a happy resident at The Artesian of Ojai. Dad is 97 years old and he first arrived at The Artesian of Ojai in April 2022. Dad lives in the Topa Topa unit of the Memory Care units at The Artesian. Dad has a room with a bathroom that includes a walk-in shower. Dad’s room is close to the dining room and the front living area. During the winter months, Dad and I like to sit in front of the fireplace in the living area.
There are plenty of activities each day. Dad likes the exercise group and the Happy Hour entertainment.
When I arrive to see Dad in the morning, he is always up from bed, dressed, and eating his breakfast. The staff at The Artesian makes sure that he starts his day when he is ready. The Med-techs make sure Dad takes his medicines and vitamins as prescribed by Dad’s doctor. Dad is then free to go about his day.
Dad is a veteran. The Artesian of Ojai is a veteran friendly organization. Each Veteran’s Day, The Artesian honors veterans with a ceremony on the barbeque patio. Dad is treated with dignity and respect.
The Artesian of Ojai partners with other local healthcare providers to provide different levels of care including hospice care.
I am confident that The Artesian of Ojai will always provide my father with the care that he needs.”

Assisted Living FAQ
Both Independent Living and Assisted Living communities offer amenities in a communal setting, such as dining rooms, gardens, libraries, and fitness centers. They also offer hospitality services, such as building maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, and daily meals. The most significant difference is that Independent Living residents require no additional care. Assisted Living residents have access to 24/7 caregivers for everyday support, such as bathing or medication management.
We begin with a short questionnaire about our resident’s health history, habits, former occupations, hobbies, recreational preferences, nutritional habits, emotional status, and key wellness attributes to create an individual profile. Then, we connect residents with the activities we believe will be most meaningful to them—or create new ones inspired by their interests.
Assisted Living (AL) communities help older adults with daily tasks while encouraging independence. Support is moderate and includes help with daily activities, medication, and basic health needs. AL staff are trained in general elder care and assisting with daily living. AL communities are comfortable, home-like settings with private apartments and social spaces, where schedules are flexible and guided by residents’ preferences. Social, recreational, and educational programs are encouraged for engagement and learning. Staff is available 24/7 and emergency systems are in place. AL is for seniors who need some help with daily tasks but can make independent choices.
Memory Care (MC) communities provide specialized care for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or memory challenges. These communities provide all the services of Assisted Living plus 24/7 supervision and care for cognitive issues. MC staff receive specialized training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care. The community is a secure and structured environment with simple layouts and safety features. MC programs are designed to provide a consistent and structured routine to reduce confusion and provide reassurance. Activities are designed for memory support and sensory stimulation. Unlike AL communities, MC communities have secured areas, alarms, and close monitoring to prevent wandering. MC is for seniors with cognitive decline who require specialized supervision and care.
We can help there! Before joining our community, every resident goes through a two-part formal assessment with the resident’s doctor and the care director at our community. The resident’s doctor will fill out a Physician’s Report for RCFE (Residential Care Facility for the Elderly) Admission. This report provides an overview of the resident’s physical and medical health including any medications, specialized diets, and ambulatory status. The community care director will evaluate the resident’s health status and assess their ability to perform activities of daily living. This combination provides a baseline for individualized care plans.
We offer on-site physical, occupational and speech therapies via our partnership with local home health agencies. Our focus is also proactive. The most effective way to overcome the effects of illness is preventing it in the first place. We strive to keep residents engaged and informed through our fitness classes, nature walks, and discussions about disease prevention.
